Street Fighter (the movies)

Though we've already visited the Street Fighter topic before, mainly limited to just the games, we thought we'd take a second look at the franchise and examine just the other media elements that the series has led on to. Though we have a brief discussion on the JCVD version, we mainly take it upon ourselves to discuss the new Legend of Chun Li movie that we watched last Friday. And what a treat it was. It makes me feel like having a free egg roll.

HAHAHA Are you a professional?! Nice one, Dom. :)

    • Dom says:

Next time, I'm bringing a beer to this kind of movie so it hurts less... I'll need someone to keep me awake through it, though.

  2. Jerry says:

The Street Fighter movie being this bad, can't wait 'till the Dragonball movie comes out.

    • suberunker says:

We get to experience that super-fun film as well. :| Hooray.

      • Jeff says:

oh, nice! So that's the reason behind the upcoming Super Saiyans episode? I can't wait!

and... I feel sorry for you guys. Because, from the trailers, Dragonball Evolution looks even WORSE than Legend of Chun Li.

I actually can't remember if I saw the 1994 "Street Fighter" live-action movie in theaters. I definitely saw "Mortal Kombat" a year later in theaters (which I remember, and even more vividly remember seeing "Annihilation")... but I don't know if I was into the whole fighting game genre quite enough in 1994 to see SF. Even ignoring that, I can't remember the first time I saw it. Was it at a friend's house? Did I rent it myself? How old was I?

It kinda frightens me that I can't remember. I own it, and I've seen it a bazillion times, but I have no memory of my first viewing. At all.

I could probably talk at extreme length about the various anime versions of the franchise, but I'll spare the internet for now. Long story short, I think the 1994 anime movie is perhaps the most faithful, well-written, and plain ol' enjoyable version of them all. Plus, it had Daisuke Gori. And the dub ends with Korn.

lol, sorry dom, but its true, someone will go watch it on this podcast. (i don't know anything much about street fighter, i grew up on sonic, mario and zelda because there were no arcades. T.T) i was cracking up in a public place listening to the cast, so i have to go and yell "i heard about that in the s words podcast!" yep.

  5. Lucca says:

Is it bad that I have an urge to go see this movie now that I've heard how bad it is?

  6. Reaperknight says:

This was amazing. The movie was every bit as bad as you said. I completely agree that it was like walking into a bathhouse and seeing your best man friend...*awkward....*
