Stuff & Suggestions #8: We Did Write That

What? More structure in the Stuff segment? Oh well, this time we take a spin on last week's lists and go with our Top 5 Anime Opening Songs (TV, Movie, OVA, whatever). Dom explains how porn and Twitter have been displayed on his big-screen TV. Mike explains the difference between a robot and a "super robot". Lita goes for some French Pokemon. And Kevin makes a desperate plea to our Swedish listeners. (Remember, that signed Touching Game can be yours in exchange!)

Intro Music: Stereocaster (Album Mix) featuring Tomoyasu Hotei vs. Char.

Outro Music: Inner Universe from Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex by Yoko Kanno and performed by ORIGA.

Awesome anime songs lists! I surprised no one said either of the Sailor Moon openings.

  2. Fey-Lynn says:

Bwahaha, I'm cool enough to ninja in my own top 5...ish... for this one. ;)

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - First season opening of the same name
    Rozen Maiden - Kinjirareta Asobi
    .Hack//Roots - Silly Go Round
    Darker Than Black - Howling
Ghost in the shell - Inner Universe (Haven't seen this anime I can play it as an interrupt and give your streak +1)

    Honorable mention to
    -Elfen Lied - Lilium
    -Ergo proxy - Kiri
    -Serial Experiments Lain - Duvet

Curses to how aware I now am of how many of my favorites are ending themes not opening. *Fist shaking*

Now that I have that out of my system, I'm super lazy and a comment here is easier then mail or small comments everywhere and then like. Ehehehe. ;D

    Awesome show~
Listening to it make me kinda sad that I missed most of Sega's era save for a bit of good times with Streets of Rage and Sonic on my friends old Jam Pack cartridge. You also inspire me to do masochistic things like learning Guilty Gear AC on a PS3 D-Pad, I largely avoided the fighting game scene (In small part to my nature of being poor at them and picking difficult characters like Bridget and Tira (Soul Calibur.) Multiplied by having move spamming younger siblings <_P

    One more thing, don't worry you aren't suffering alone! Some twisted sense of curiosity is going to drive me to eventually see the new Pseudo Dragon Ball Movie too. ;.;

Anyways enough Fey ranting, keep up your very fancy work, I'll be listening. =]

    • Fey-Lynn says:

"Multiplied by having move spamming younger siblings <_P"

Was a section seemingly cut out. Aha, didn't realize i typed so much.

      • Fey-Lynn says:

Multiplied by having move spamming younger siblings. but you all made it sound too intense when they are played above a button mashing level. >P

Oh dear, double, mayhaps even triple fail, it just doesn't like my emote I don't think.
Apologies even if this one botches too I'll leave it at that. x3

    • Shiroi Kaze says:

No love for the second Stand Alone Complex Opening? Rise? :(

      • Fey-Lynn says:

I have some love for it to. =O
It just doesn't have the same depth and layering that push the other themes just far enough past it on my favorites. =[

Also, I was trying to not include more then one opening from the same anime/Artist.
Naraku no Hana from Higurashi as well as Baragoku Otome and Seishoujo Ryouiki from Rozen Maiden would have edged out a couple there, issue is I like them for the same reasons as the others by the same artist so i wanted to mix it up a little. ^^

  3. Soung says:

Since I wasn't there, and I don't have to follow any format in my comment, here are some favorites of mine that were not mentioned.

    Ranma 1/2 Op 1
Etsuko Nishio - Jaja Uma ni Sasenaide

    Video Girl Ai
    Noriko Sakai - Ureshi Namida

    Lodoss War OVA
Arai Akino - Adesso e Fortuna

    Lodoss War TV
Maaya Sakamoto - Kiseki no Umi

    Cutey Honey
    Any of the various versions

    kodomo no Omocha Op 2
Tomoe Shinohara - Ultra Relax (Watch the actual music video. It's weird. Really weird.)

    Dirty Pair Op 1
Meiko Nakahara - Ru-Ru-Ru-Russian Roulette (No, not the Hotei song. She also sang a some of the KOR songs.)

    Ranma 1/2 OVA 1 Op
    Yawmin - Koi Da! Panic

    DNA^2
    L'Arc~en~Ciel - Blurry Eyes

    Excel Saga
    The Excel Girls - Ai

    Idol Project
Idol Project voice cast - Don't Stop! -Su . Te . Ki ni Meguri Aitai-

    Himiko Den
Yuuko Sasaki - Pure Snow (This easily makes my top 5 and am disappointed it was not mentioned)

    Tekkaman Blade II
    Masami Okui - Reincarnation

    Serial Experiments Lain
    Bôa - Duvet

    Tenjou Tenge
m.c.A-T feat. Da Pump - Bomb a Head! Returns!

Nurse Angel Ririka SOS Op 1
Suirei - Koi wo Suru tabi ni Kizu Tsuki Yasuku (This quite possibly would have topped my list had I been in the podcast. I'vm pretty sure I got her name right. It's definitely not Yuki Kajiura as Animelyrics.com says.)

    Revolutionary Girl Utena
    Masami Okui - Rinbu Revolution

Junge wa Itsumo Hare Nochi Guu Delux
Sister Mayo - Love Tropicana Delux (The first time I heard this was Miho singing it at kareoke. Th full song is just insane.)

    • suberunker says:

Argh. I totally forgot Himiko Den and Lodoss TV. Himiko Den would have easily been #3.

At least I should have Honorably mentioned Blurry Eyes, Ririka, Tekkaman II, and Utena.

      • I had wanted to bring mention the Kanno stuff after Tank was mentioned, leading into Esca and Lodoss. Totally forgot...

And yes, Himikoden... I love that song. But it makes me cry, whereas burning songs bring me to tears. Subtle difference.

I really and truly have too many Honorable Mentions!

  4. Soung says:

I forgot to add one other song

Idol Defense Force Hummingbird Op 1
    Hummingbird - Love Wing

  5. Luey says:

Get Over - Hikaru No Go

  6. Shiroi Kaze says:

I love the nod to Macross, looking forward to the Shoji Kawamori podcast if you guys ever get to it.

Also, the Full Metal Panic Fumoffu songs were pretty unique. They are like great songs to listen to during summer :(

  7. Rent-A-Zilla says:

I used to DJ and use the H.T. you guys played as my intro...twas awesome.

  8. Shiseki says:

And I hope you guys sing at least the first stanza and Chorus of the song.

In any case, here's me chiming from about my list.

Karma - Bump of Chicken <<Also used for the Tales of the Abyss.

    Along with:

Sailing Day - Bump of Chicken <<Used as an OP for One Peice.

Rewrite - Asian Kung Fu Generation. <<Used in FMA.

    Rythm Emotion - Two-Mix <.>

In any case. I've got a suggestion to beat your "S-words only" restriction for topics. And also the problem with Shin and Super.

You read a letter concerning a topic like say "Hey what do you guys think about ____"And you guys chime in with your thoughts on it. And maybe expand a bit. It'll be like Scraps Ultra-Lite.

    Eh?Eh?

  9. Peter Hickman says:

Please no clip show! They only put those on when they can't think of anything new, you guys have more things to talk about then there is time. Lets not go there, please,

Anyhow Mark Shelley sounds good, especially if you can cover The Last Man one of her much underrated works. And if we are going for old school science fiction (which is what The Last Man was) perhaps we could also have Stanislaw Lem and Olaf Stapledon.

What about Will Smith? Which would be a great excuse to slag off the P.o.S that was I Am Legend. Read the book if you haven't already, hopefully Will Smith hasn't poisoned your mind.

Here's an S word, syncategorematical. That could have a whole show to itself! (That was a lame linguistics joke BTW).

Keep up the good work and don't mention the taint needle.

  10. Paw_ says:

I can't believe i went on vacation for this one! TT Anyway, i'm very surprised Dom DIDN'T say bokken bokken desho. very surprised.
