So here's the actual lines from my number 3 favorite Star Trek moment. It's from the second episode of Star Trek TNG somewhere around a third of the way into the episode, "The Naked Now" as written on IMDB and confirmed via Youtube. I would have checked my own DVDs, but Kevin currently has them.

Lt. Cmdr. Data: There was a rather peculiar Limerick, being delivered by someone in the shuttlecraft bay. I'm not sure I understand it...”There was a young lady from Venus, whose body was shaped like a...”

Capt. Picard: Captain to security, come in!

Lt. Cmdr. Data: Did I say something wrong?

Lieutenant Worf: I don't understand their humor either.

The movies are generally a good place to start. And when you do get around to the TV shows, just keep in mind the production values for the movies are always much higher than the TV series. For someone like you, if you do see the new film, I'm sure you will still find it a fun and exciting movie, however much of the references will most definitely go over your head. I'd recommend at the very least watching "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" before seeing the new movie.

And unlike many of the other co-hosts, I still think all of the Star Trek movies are worth watching at least once, but the must sees are movies 2, 4, 6, 8, and the new movie. But as we mentioned in the podcast, 2-4 are one story, so watching 3 is kind of important to understanding 4.

Once you get through the movies, the choice of TV series is rather debatable. Both the original series and the first few seasons of The Next Generation will look really dated by today's scifi standards so you may find it a little hard to watch (although the fact that they updated a lot of the special effects in the original series helps quite a bit). You may find Enterprise the easiest gateway into the Star Trek universe since chronologically it is first, but it was the newest Star Trek series produced so the special effects in general are very good.

But if you want the true Star Trek experience, start with the original series, then TNG, DS9, Voyager, and then end with Enterprise. But that's a heck of a lot of Star Trek to get through.

Alas, I was too young to see Star Trek, and don't seem to have opportunity to watch it. If I ever do begin, what should I watch first?

I feel so young listening to people talk about Star Trek. I haven't seen most of the franchise and don't know what a lot of people are talking about most of the time. This especially sucks when you are in a family of people who have seen much more Star Trek. I still enjoyed the movie, and I didn't really have the ability to nit-pick anything.

I like your top 3 moments. The Prometheus is one of my favorite ST ships along with the Enterprise J (From Voyager and Enterprise respectively). And I too could nitpick our podcasts, which is why I often end up having to correct myself in the comments section. The lesson here is don't believe everything we say. After a podcast, I'll often consult the internet about things. Sometimes I realize I was totally wrong and sometime I find I'm right, like what I said about the DS9 premiere. From what I've found online and remember hearing about back in '93, not only was it the most watched series premiere in syndication history (at least up to that point, I can't confirm if it still holds that record), it's apparently one of the highest rated episodes in all of syndicated television.

Did you know that "Star Trek: First Contact", the Millennium Falcon made an appearance with the Battle of Sector 001? It was inserted by ILM when they did the CGI for First Contact.

My Trek movies ranking top 3 are 8, 2 (KKKKKHHHAAANNN!!), and 6.

Moments are top 3:

3. Seeing the separation of the Enterprise-D in "Encounter at Farpoint" and by extension the Prometheus-Class battle in "Message in a Bottle".
2. "In a Mirror Darkly" seeing the Bridge of the Defiant in it's retro glory. Nerdgasm!
1. "Best of Both Worlds" both parts.

And there are four books, Nitpicker's guide to TNG, TNG part II, TOS, and DS9. you can view it online in PDF format. Yes, I CAN nitpick your Trek podcast, but will I? Probably not.

Your podcasts are always funny and I always listen to them as soon as I get then downloaded whether it's on my computer or while driving... Keep up the good work, look forward to your Star Wars podcast.

After thinking about my comment on the general portrayal of women in Star Trek, I now have to agree that Voyager did have strong women characters. Kes was one of my favorite characters in that series actually. Unfortunately, Janeway and Seven IMHO weren't that well written, but they were still strong female characters. I was mostly thinking about TOS, TNG, and Enterprise with that comment added by my feelings on the writing on Voyager.

But I mostly feel bad about not thinking about DS9, which I feel had the strongest female characters in all of Star Trek. Dax and Kira were both great characters and heck, I even liked Ezra Dax (She reminded me a lot of Kes).
