Stuff & Suggestions #16: Shota Seaman

Kevin was out this week, so Dom is hosting this episode by himself. Please note that this episode has many sound issues and they have been cleaned as much as possible, though they are still noticeable. This week, we skip the lists and go through a quick discussion about this year's E3 before heading into the mailbag.

Ok, so I'm downloading this, but the title has scared me.

  2. Zero47 says:

And now I'm laughing at the title.

Man... Both of the times that Dom's recorded, the quality sucks. Dom, why do you suck?

No but seriously, I'm kidding. Very funny episode, guys. Especially the whole segment on our good friend Peter.

Keep up the good work. ^_^

    Great episode.

    An S-Words podcast subject: S-Words.

You know, you could use that podcast to actually do full introductions of yourselves. For those that do not know who you guys are, you could do mini biographies of yourselves. Or, just use it as an excuse to tell old stories, i.e. how you all met each other, a more detailed explanation about the concept of the podcast itself, how you choose who is going to be on, etc etc.

How we all know each other is mostly straight forward. Most of us attended UC Berkeley and all met through Cal Animage Alpha, the anime club on campus. Pretty much all of the people you hear on the podcast, excluding the special interviews obviously, have been an officer in that club at one time or another. The only exceptions I can think of are Matt, Ian and Jess (of Three Panel Soul, etc), Alex (Who I don't really know so I can't say much about him), and Lita (Which will be somewhat explained in the upcoming podcast.)

So if someone new shows up on the podcast of we mention someone who is a mutual friend of ours, just assume we also knew them from Cal Animage Alpha.

And as for full introductions, many of us don't really do anything particularly noteworthy and/or like a bit of anonymity. And those who actually have done something noteworthy are generally very modest about it. For instance, how many times have we heard Dom skirt around Megatokyo topics? But I will say that Kevin is most well known in fandom as the anime music video creator, Suberunker of Suberunker Studeosh. Just youtube his videos if you haven't seen them.

Adding to what I said in my previous post, doing a mini biography of ourselves isn't going to be that interesting. But we do reveal stuff about our past as they relate to that week's topic. And the next podcast that will be posted will be much more personal and anecdotal.

As for a detailed explanation of the concept of the podcast, that story has already been told, and to be honest, I don't think a whole lot more thought was put into it beyond that. The concept of the podcast has evolved as they are being recorded.

And lastly, who the guest hosts will be at any given week depends on the subject for that week. Generally they try and get people that know about the given subject, but availability also plays a major part. It's why you'll probably never hear me in a podcast about games but I'm usually guests on the movie and TV subjects. I spent much of my time growing up watching TV or movies and hardly ever played video games.

Hopefully that all is a satisfactory answer for you. Remember that this podcast is about topics of the week and not really about ourselves. I doubt many people would care to listen to our life stories, but I could be wrong.

On the topic of life stories: may I remind you that voyeurism is one of humanity's passions?

Relevant Siderant: look at the RealiTV shows, and then tell me Dom still is the only one who touches his TV set (Dom's Touching Games VS Everyone's RealiTV shows, usually with Big Bosoms or crunchy fake life/exaggerated stories... Or both.).

We tried to get into this material more with the latest show. I know, as a podcast listener myself, that getting to hear stories about the host's lives or how they met can be very interesting (sometimes the most interesting material) so we're working on it. It's all a matter of how much people are willing to share with the rest of the world. I try to be pretty open about stories, but I do try to stay modest about previous Internet stuff.

Stuff generally brings out more stores, like the Top 3 Geekiest Things you've done, so we will try to get more into stories and what we've been up to for the week. The upcoming Stuff is a good example (I am working on it tonight and should have it up soon).

Though it WILL be nice to know about some of your backgrounds and how you became that crazy (we know Dom always was), I had no intention of sounding like "MOAR LIFESTORIEZ" in my last comment. Sorry :/

            • suberunker says:

I didn't take it as that, so no apology needed at all. I'm always trying to get more life stories out of the guest hosts as well, so certainly I'm on the same boat as you. No need to apologize, we're not offended in any way. :O This is a casual comment board. :)

Did you guys seriously reference The Bots Master? Holy crap.
