A big, big topic this time around as we take a look at Shin Seiki Evangelion (or Neon Genesis Evangelion for the US folks). We go briefly into the series, discuss some bits about Gainax, and really use the topic as a launching pad for one of the topics that's been requested for a long time: our top 5 anime series. Buckle up kids, cause this is a long one.
Intro/Outro Music: Cruel Angel's Thesis by Yoko Takahashi
I wondered how long before it got to you guys talking about Shinji wanking off to Asuka... didn't take long, did it?
Anyhow I like ep 26 mostly for the alternate universe which "Evangelion: Angelic Days" derived from though I haven't read past vol. 3.
As for my top 5 anime though most are new stuff:
Honorable mentions and also sad moments are from Key; Kanon (MAKOTO!), Air (Goal!), and Clannad (poor Kyou).
5. Haibane Renmei, Reki!
4. Cowboy Bebop, Bang.
3. Code Geass, especially when it came for the last episode
2. Martian Successor Nadesico, bakka baka
and number 1? why Mind Screw Evangelion, of course!
My weird moments were when Eva unit 01 ate Zeruel (14th angel). the other one is in End of Eva when naked Rei was straddling naked Shinji and I thought, "Uhh, isn't Rei his mom or half sister or something?"
Rei is a clone based on Shinji's mother, but IIRC, his mother is actually in Eva 01.
Hey! Endless 8 wasn't that... bad.... sorta....
Anywho, great episode, but wow... I had to listen to this one in three sittings. One between classes, one on the way home, and one after I took a nap.
I've never seen Evangelion....
Anyway, my list is as follows. It was very difficult to pick from, even though I've only seen like 20 animes.
5. Suzuka
4. G Gundam
3. Sola or .hack//twilight
2. Code Geass or Now and Then, Here or There
1. Eureka 7
IMHO doing the "sighs" of Haruhi Suzumiya is waaay more of a bad choice then doing 8 episodes of "Endless 8"
and talk about off topic! This episode wasn't really about Eva now was it?
Hopefully the SRW episode won't be like this(only because the topic itself is prone to off topicness)
If a podcast is like an episode of a show, this must be the two-hour fall season premiere, right?
Kyou, The Cat from Fruits Basket, turned into the cat's "true form" when the juzu beads were removed, it was an extra screw-you part of the curse that only applied to The Cat, probably as punishment by the other zodiac members because he didn't want to be stuck in an endless cycle of reincarnation, read the true story of the zodiac in volume 22 to learn more.
Great podcast as always! I love the long ones.
I have a quick question for Soung. Right before your number 1 anime, you mention your favorite comedies and I couldn't understand the first one (the one that isn't Dragon Half). And judging from the reaction around the table, I think its something I need to see.
It's Ping-Pong Club.
You are a bad person. Trust me, we know our own.
Thank you!
Yeah, "Ping Pong Club" is awesome. I've seen it shown at a couple different anime clubs. it's one of those shows that needs a pretty heavy disclaimer before showing and there's always people that just can't take it and walk out. So it most definitely isn't for everyone, much like "Puni Puni Poemi".
So be warned, there is some adult comment and a LOT of very crude humor.
This was a good episode. Though it wandered away from it's original topic early, I liked it. Eva really has a buttload of strangeness in the end. Maybe I'll go watch it again in a few months.
This was good for somebody who hasn't even watched Eva (strange show, from what I hear). Exceedingly long episode, perfect for CoD.
What was Litta's number one, anyways? It was kind of mumbled in between giggles when she said it.
Lita's #1 is Fruits Basket.
My tops:
5. Claymore
4. Flag
3. Read or Die
2. Berserk
1. Hikaru no Go
