This week we look at one of our childhood favorites - Calvin and Hobbes (through his popular sci-fi persona of Spaceman Spiff). The comic strip was actually a big part of growing up for all of us, so it's one of those topics that is very nostalgic and memorable for us. We hope you enjoy as we discuss our favorite moments and brief bits on how Calvin & Hobbes changed comic strips.
Intro/Outro Music: Fun Day at Home (The Powerpuff Girls Movie) by James L. Venable
Calvin & Hobbes is so awesome. I fully intend to inflict it on my kid when he gets of age.
If you have ever heard the song, The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. Then you may be aware of Lemon Demons existance. He also did a song titled Bill Waterson. I suggest you look into it. Not long and not that stupendious musically, but still worth a listen.
@AntiDom
I like their Word Disassociation.
Also as to Piers Anthony, in the first book of Xanth 'A Spell for Chameleon', the whole pun joke is that by "sowing wild oats, watered by your urine" a wild nymph would be attracted. And at least in the Xanth world, nymphs are basically very naive beautiful girls who indulge in earthly desires. Different types had varying dispostions, but the wild variety were also brainless and only liked you as long as you maintained the oat field. Lots of hidden imagery and puns in his books. Personally I loved it. the sequel 'Source of all Magic' is pretty good too.
God, I read 'A Spell for Chameleon' well before the age I should have been exposed to it's content...
Is it wrong that despite it being 10 years since I have read it, I managed to correct every mistake you guys made?
I think so...
Also I remember doing the skit where he drains the tub of the 'soap monster'. My mother was not ammused.
And trying to play Calvin Ball with 10+ people. The rules get confusing as 10 people make them up as they go. We ended with around 60+ rules that may or may not have conflicted. Ended up being a good game though
