Shakespeare

This week we get a bit cultured with Shakespeare, a topic many literature fans have been asking for and one that Dom got overly excited for. We discuss our favorite works, our thoughts on various adaptations, and get derailed every once in a while. It's a long one, but it's also got a lot of friendly banter. Enjoy!

Greetings S-worders... I like Shakespeare but I haven't read much of his works other than the videos like seeing Hamlet in school, doing Romeo and Juliet in school, etc. But as for what plays or references Star Trek have done is at this link: http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Shakespeare

Also Patrick Stewart was in a modern adaptation of King Lear called "King of Texas". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0282659/
I remember seeing this on TV and was like, "What happened, Patrick?"

  2. Soung says:

So I found the commercial I mentioned about 51 minutes into the podcast. It was Sprite, not 7up like I thought. But here's a link to it.

    About Romeo x Juliet...

The tree wasn't her mother, it was %$#!!!!#$%. And it demanded a sacrifice to stop it from destroying the world.

Also, did you know Rosencrantz and Guildenstern make an appearance as characters in Vagrant Story? The whole game seems like a giant amalgam of all of many of Shakespeare's works.

  4. AntiDom says:

Thank God for Kevin being in Jerk Store Mode during this episode. I have never been a huge fan of Shakespeare, but it was still a fun episode.

And I really like how SimAnt is winning in the poll!

    Later guys!
    David

    PS I miss you Amy!

  5. Daoud says:

    Ahh, Soung.

How about Jon Malkovich as Mercutio, he's got anger.

  6. Triggerhappy938 says:

Kevin's such a jerkstore, beating up on poor, defenseless Dom.

  7. Tommy says:

Man this podcast took me back to Highschool English so many times, as well as Lit classes in college from the week before. We just finished Hamlet not too long ago. I had no idea The Lion King was based off Hamlet, and Much Ado About Nothing is my favorite Shakespeare play alongside King Lear. My Highschool Theatre actually went to state competition my junior year with Tom Stoppard's Rosencratz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

  8. Patrick says:

Just had to vote SimAnt, because it's funny. And so did many other people.

  9. Karen says:

Sorry guys, I meant The Fifteen Minute Hamlet (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0125746/), not the Five Minute Hamlet. It's also, surprise, surprise, by Tom Stoppard.

  10. Andrew says:

I would love to see Avery Brooks as Othello.

  11. Su says:

Seriously guys? Old Man and the Sea is one of the more famous works.

Dom at least should have gotten that right the first time around.

I do appreciate Kevin playing Jerk Store, even if Dom did not successfully set him on fire with his mind.

  12. For awhile,I was concerned Star Trek was a dying franchise. Then JJ Abrams came along. Good touch. The scene with kid Kirk was a bit too quirky in the movie, although it was very popular in the movie trailer. Star Trek XI breathed new life into this favorite Roddenberry world. I'd like to see all of this Enterprise cast come back for additional outings. I grew up with the original series. Heck, my dad got us a color TV just so we could view Star Trek every single Friday afternoon. Right now, I'm stuck on these new famous actors. In MHO, they have breathed life into their characters and made them their very own. I, for one, am longing for more.
