We reminisce on one of pop culture's biggest seasons: the Summer Movie season. From our first summer movies to a discussion of the current summer movie lineup to some ramblings about movies and life in general, we go over summer films and reconnect after a long time without recording a show.

I really like Scott Pilgrim. It's definitely my sense of humor. Out of curiosity, why don't you like Scott Pilgrim?
I agree that movies haven't been that interesting this year (outside of How To Train Your Dragon), which is sad because I really want to see some movies.
I personally just don't like the characters very much. Scott Pilgrim just comes off as a character too forced to be wacky/zany or, dare I say it, quirky (ugh). That and the whole indie music scene the books create feel out-of-place and too much like what a geek thinks the hispter/trendster scene is like.
Pacing, flow-of-the-page, and even the art all pass for me, though the horrible digest format, crappy paper quality, and poor cropping all hurt the book's readability (though that's Oni Press' fault, not O'Malley's). I just want to see if O'Malley can write anything else besides this faux-hipster, quirky stuff. Judging his previous work, Lost at Sea, I don't think he can...
Twins is a Hk based singing group that consist of the two main girls that was in 'The Twins Effect'.
they are not models or actress's but they are singers, and as a group, they have been popular for most of their career. They splitted up around 2-3 years ago.
So, summer movies are OK, but what about the lead ins. Summer blockbusters bring holiday movie trailers.
I too am a Scott Pilgrim fan. However I've been reading about the movie for what seems like forever and I'm afraid if you're looking something different out of the movie I believe you will be disappointed. The casting reeks of the source material and changes to the plot have been minimal. Edgar Wright's movies tend to have a certain sense of style and from what I can tell that style will be O'Malley's.
On the topic of summer movies, I wasn't aware of them until the late nineties. I'm like seventeen or eighteen now. So my experience with them has been spread between being absolutely dreadful, amnesia inducing stupid, and "meh". I think with the advent of sequels and the ease of special effects, the thrill of the summer movie is just gone. I can't remember the last time I even went to a movie theater. I'm perfectly fine waiting til Avatar and Iron Man 2 are on FX.
I thoroughly enjoyed the podcast. Hope to be listening again soon!
Casting has been spot-on except for one case: Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim. Despite my issues with Cera, I think he might fit better with Pilgrim if he tones the character down, but we'll see.
I'll be seeing the film on the first day, but I bet I like it far more than the books.
Great podcast. I am looking forward to Scott Pilgrim, and do agree with your assessment of Cera. The game does look great, and Jason Schwartzmann is always fun to see. Rest of the cast looks pretty great, too. Oh, and Edgar Wright is an awesome director. Any of you guys heard of a movie called 'The Kids Are All Right'? Small indie movie with an interesting premise and a great cast. I've recently really grown to appreciate Mark Ruffalo's acting, and he's in it, so it was enough to get my attention.
The A-Team surprised me, was quite fun. I posted a review on my site (www.theindiegeek.net). I do have high hopes for Inception, I'm a big Joseph Gordon-Leavitt fan.
Avatar was overrated. Moon is underrated. Everyone must see Moon.
Remember, Crank Free or Die Hard.
Moon, while not one of the Best Things Ever, should still be watched by everyone.
Listening to it now. Man you guys are young. I remember sitting in the theater for "Raiders of the Lost Ark" which was the Summer of '81. I was actually planning to show up for this. I had my list of movies and everything, but was informed last minute by my cousin that she was graduating that day, so I ended up driving to Davis instead.
Yep.
I wish my fondest Summer Move was Raiders of the Lost Ark, though Jurassic Park does very well too.
Awesome recording as always. Can's stop laughing.
I think the summer of Phantom Menace is what broke my belief in movie hype. I really enjoyed most of the huge summer blockbusters and all the hype that precluded most of them. Yes, even Armageddon, Independence Day and Batman Forever. It wasn't until Phantom Menace that I realized that I was being lied to by the Hollywood machine.
Since then, I've always taken my summer blockbuster with a grain of salt. Not that I've always been let down or disappointed.
Lita's not still in Japan is she?
It would figure that the one time one of you guys get's to Japan, I would happen to be stateside.
Holy tag list, Batman!
